We have remaining spots open for two upcoming events: 1) Small Farms Food Safety workshop, 2) Poultry Processing Training.

  1. Small Farms Food Safety workshop:
    Are you a produce grower interested in learning about basic farm food safety practices? Please consider attending our workshop. In this interactive program, you will learn why food safety is important and how to implement basic practices to minimize food safety risks on your farm. This workshop will specifically address food safety requirements for fruit and vegetable growers selling to food hubs participating in CFSA’s FarmsSHARE program but will be beneficial to any grower interested in learning more. Come prepared to participate in discussions and activities! Instructors include; John Lyttle, Small Farms and Local Foods Agriculture Agent with Durham County, Sara Runkel, Local Produce Safety Coordinator with CFSA, and Dr. Chip Simmons, Area Specialized Agent for Produce Safety with NC State University.

  2. Poultry Processing Training:
    Please join us to learn to use our Mobile Poultry Processing Unit on Wednesday, April 26. Hosted by N.C. Cooperative Extension and the Jarvis family of Jireh Family Farm, topics covered include – but are not limited to – pastured poultry management, the exemption and inspection process to sell meat, as well as the opportunity for hands-on processing. This training is required for first-time renters of Durham/Orange Counties’ unit.
