The Chatham County 4-H Program invites youth aged 10 years and older to join us at the Pollinator Paradise Garden in Pittsboro on Friday August 18 as we learn about pollinators and take part in the 2023 Great Southeast Pollinator Census.
Making Pollinators Count in Chatham County!

This annual community science event is a fun and easy activity that involves counting pollinators that land on a favorite pollinator plant; the event organizer will later upload this information to a database that helps us better understand pollinators.
No experience is required! Participants will learn how to tell the difference among several different types of pollinators and spend time observing them in the pollinator garden. All participants will go home with a locally grown perennial pollinator plant to plant in their own yard!
This is a free event but pre-registration is required. Registration deadline is August 16. This activity is for youth who are at least 10 years old; space is limited.
How to Register:
- You must be enrolled in 4-HOnline 2.0 to register for the event. If you have not yet enrolled, please visit our 4-HOnline 2.0 information page on how to successfully do this. (As an added bonus, enrolled members get instant notifications to register for additional county events – like summer camps – and much more!) 4-H membership is FREE and is now required to participate in county 4-H programs. If you are not interested in joining a 4-H club, that is no problem. Just make sure to select “Chatham Members At Large” as your club selection in 4-HOnline.
- After completing 4-HOnline enrollment, 4-H staff will approve your initial enrollment which will allow you to see the available events (i.e., the 2023 Great Southeast Pollinator Census in Chatham County).
- Log back into your 4-HOnline account and scroll to the bottom to see all current event offerings. **There are several summer opportunities at this time, so make sure you click on the “event” link on the left side of the page to see the complete list of events.** After choosing your event selection, 4-H staff will be able to approve your registration based on space availability.
