Are you interested in possibly using drone technology to monitor and control pests, plant cover crops, plan new land projects, or just map and photograph your farm from above? The Watauga office of North Carolina Cooperative Extension will offer a two–day course to prepare small farm operators to take the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 107 licensing test to become licensed drone operators.
The Part 107 test will not be given during this course, but class participants who successfully complete the full two days of the course will be eligible to receive a test-fee waiver from NCA&T State University. This course will be taught by Paul Ross, Chief Operations Operator of Nine Ten Drones, LLC.
The class will take place Thursday, February 22 and Friday, February 23, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Pre- registration is required, and there is a cost of $50 for the class and materials. Lunch and light refreshments will be provided each day.
To reserve a place in this class and register, visit the Watauga County Extension Center at 971 West King Street, Boone, NC 28607. Registration fees can be paid there by check or cash only (exact change please). Credit card payments cannot be accepted and class size is limited to 20 participants.
If wanting to register by mail, interested participants can send a check for $50 made out to “Watauga County” to the address above, with “Drone Class Registration” noted in the check’s “Memo” line. When registering by mail, please enclose your full name, phone number and email so we can let you know you are successfully registered. To be sure of timely registration, please mail checks no later than February 10, 2024. In-person registrations will be accepted at the Watauga Extension Center through 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024.
