During Spring Break while other youth were sleeping late and relaxing five Caswell County 4-Hers were working hard and winning ribbons!  These 4-Hers competed April 7th & 8th against 4-Her's and FFA youth from ten other counties in our area. 

Caswell started out strong on day one of the show with Caleb Bolton showing his hog Fred!  The duo won first place in his market class and third in showmanship. For his first time showing we were all super excited especially Fred because he got extra marshmallows! The hits kept coming with Ben Vernon and his steer, Big Un, winning Reserve Grand Champion Market Steer! Big Un looks daunting at 1,355 lbs but he was so sweet and on his best behavior! 

Day two didn't disappoint with a one two punch during the Intermediate Lamb Showmanship! The judge worked this group of youth hard making them set up and move over and over again.  However, Caswell came out the victor with Grand Champion Showmanship Petyon Dodson and Reserve Grand Champion Ben Vernon! Not to be out shown, Lucas Vernon took home the Reserve Grand Champion Junior Showmanship ribbon! As we switched to goats we had another new showman participating.  Nolan Popp and his goat Gus had an amazing time learning new skills and bringing home two Cloverbud ribbons! 

When we thought it couldn't get any better Caleb Bolton was awarded the Rob Hogan Encouraging Inclusion and Innovation within Agriculture Award at the Wednesday night awards ceremony.  This award presented by the Hogan family in memory of Rob is all about youth learning and growing in agriculture. Caleb received a plaque and $250!

Bailee Sheffield, Livestock agent and Brandi Boaz, 4-H agent, could not be more proud of the hard work, determination, and enthusiasm these 4-Her's had for their livestock projects. They presented themselves in such a respectful way and showed what true animal husbandry was all about. Congratulations to all our 4-H youth!
