There are several Mobile Processing units available for rental in North Carolina. Caswell County may not be the closest MPU available for you. The Center for Environmental Farming Systems has a map of MPU’s available for rent in NC.

Any and all renters must have attended a poultry processing training hosted by  N.C. Cooperative Extension before renting the unit the first time.

**You can attend other workshops aside from one held in Caswell/Person/Rockingham counties as long as it is with N.C. Cooperative Extension.**

All first time rentals with the Caswell/Person/Rockingham Equipment will need to have a brief walkthrough of it, as some is different than neighboring counties equipment.

The next training to be hosted by Caswell County will be in the spring of 2025. For a list of upcoming registrations, or to be added to the list for the 2025 Caswell Spring workshop, email Bailee Sheffield at bailee_sheffield@ncsu.edu.

Users that have failed to cancel a reservation, or failed to pick up the unit when reserved without communicating with the Extension office in the past 12 months will be required to submit a $25 deposit to hold future reservations.

Rental fees are $50.00 per 3 day reservation and $75 per 5-day reservation. The unit is available for rental to anyone who has completed the training course on a first come, first serve basis. It is NOT only available to Caswell/Person/Rockingham County Residents; however, the office reserves the right to direct producers to MPUs located closer to them.

The renter must sign a User Agreement when they pick up the MPPU. Per the agreement, a cleaning charge will be assessed if the unit is not properly cleaned and the user will be required to participate in additional training prior to the next rental. The MPPU is housed in a 5’x8′ enclosed towable trailer. To tow the unit, the renter must bring a vehicle with a 2″ trailer hitch ball, and working connectors for trailer lights and brakes.

A cleaning charge of $50 will be assessed if the unit is not properly cleaned and the user will be required to participate in additional training prior to the next rental. The user can be prohibited from future use of the MPU if there is more than one return in an unclean condition or the user does not pay the cleaning charge within 14 days of assessment.

IF you would like to rent the unit, you must complete the RESERVATION REQUEST. An Extension staff member will contact you to confirm your date and confirm your payment method (Cash/Check). Your payment must be given to the Extension office prior to leaving with the processing equipment.
